Our Story

Penglipuran Village has a history dating back to the 18th century during the reign of the Bangli Kingdom. The name "Penglipuran" comes from the words "Pengeling" (remembering) and "Pura" (holy place), reflecting the villagers' devotion to their ancestors and traditions.

18th Century

The village was established by people from Bayung Gede village who moved to the current location, bringing their traditions and customs.

Early 20th Century

The village layout was reorganized following the traditional Balinese "Tri Mandala" concept, dividing space into sacred, residential, and public areas.

1990s

Penglipuran gained recognition as one of Bali's best-preserved traditional villages and began receiving visitors interested in authentic Balinese culture.

2012

Awarded the Kalpataru, Indonesia's highest environmental award, for maintaining traditional architecture and sustainable practices.
